About the lesson

• My project focused on understanding the differentiation and pathogenicity of adipocytes. This is done by comparing the growth of fat cells in a normal environment to an environment saturated with fatty acids. Pathogenicity of the adipocytes is determined by analyzing the expression of cytokines and obesogenic markers.
• Assisted in the development of a three-dimensional in-vitro model. In this model, cells are grown on matrigel, an extracellular matrix. This model allows us to explore how the 3D in-vitro model is a better representation of the adipose tissue found in the in-vivo models. If the 3D model does provide a more accurate representation, then this would have huge impact in the drug discovery and development process.
