About Hanna

I am a passionate documentary filmmaker and journalist who has lived back and forth between the U.S. and Colombia for the past 10 years. Learning Spanish completely transformed my life, forming the foundation of my career and leading to so many loving relationships with people all over the world. It is single handedly the most useful and profound skill you can gain — a source of solidarity and deep connection.

I earned my masters degree in journalism and Latin American Studies from NYU, where I researched Indigenous politics in Colombia. My work has taken me all over Latin America, where I research, write, interview, and publish in both languages.

When I first learned Spanish in high school, it seemed impossible to imagine mastering it. But through systematic understanding of grammar and then practice, I quickly became fluent. Since then, I've learned two other romance languages and understand what it takes to master them.

I would be so excited to share this journey with others!

About the lesson

Learning a new language feels daunting at the beginning, but I find ways to make the experience fun and gratifying. Dozens of my students have achieved fluency, boosted their grades by a letter or more, and gained enormous confidence - to excel in the classroom, travel, work, and connect with people!

Because I also had to learn Spanish as a second language, our lessons won't just be loose conversational practice, but a structured way of building the grammer, vocab, and deep understanding that make the material really stick. We go through the building blocks from one unit to the next so that you don't just pick up a few conversational tidbits, but can actually start hearing and absorbing how the language works. I went through this process myself and am now completely bilingual.

No matter what level you are at - whether you just want to gain a quick base before traveling, are studying in school and need extra support, or are a professional who wants to advance their writing skills and grammar, I can take it on. I have ample experience working with neurodiverse people and find adaptive ways to make everything click.
