How to Avoid Mistakes?

As we mentioned above, mistakes can be completely avoidable, either you are tired, stressed or anything else along those lines. Of course, they do happen, but knowing how to avoid mistakes can help you prevent them together. We'll give you all the tips and tricks to avoid mistakes so you can get the best mark possible on your exam.  There's at least one mistake on this list we're all guilty of. It's okay. It happens. It's what you do after that mistake that happens. When you make a mistake, you can choose to learn from it or find a way to mitigate the mistake, so it doesn't happen again. Check out the list of common mistakes down below.

Read the Question Fully - If you don't understand the question, read it again and again or ask for help. This is one of the biggest mistakes students make when it comes to an exam. They read the question quickly without fully grasping what it's asking. Instead, read the question over, and vine highlight some of the essential parts so you can answer the questions correctly.

Look at the Mark Scheme - Most teachers will have how much is question is worth. This is valuable information for you as the students. If it's a three-mark question and you only write enough information for two marks, you're missing out on a mark. Even after answering the question, go back and think how much your answer is worth.

Don't Skip Questions - Students will skip questions they don't understand fully or don't know the answer to. This again is another big mistake. Always put something in that answer box. You have a zero chance of if you leave that answer box empty. Do your best to put the write information.

Be Time-Aware - Some students take a long time to finish exams. It's by no means a bad thing, but if you're finishing an exam with little time to spare one day, you're not going to have enough time to complete it. Give yourself enough time to reach the question. The problem becomes when you don't understand a question, and you spend minutes trying to answer it. Skip the question and move on to the next one. Come back at the end and fill something in.

Get Enough Sleep - Getting enough sleep before your exam will help you avoid mistakes. We all make more mistakes when we're tired. The lack of sleep can cause us to miss questions or skip over questions. Even writing our questions, we can get mixed up by being tired. Give yourself enough time to sleep. Never plan for anything the night before.

Lower Stress - Being stressed about your exam is another way to make a mistake. You won't be performing at your best when you are feeling stressed. Try to lower your stress levels and be calm and relaxed for test day. There is a number of ways to achieve this. You just have to find a way that works for you.

Finishing too Quickly - Being too slow during your exam is a bad thing, along with finishing too quickly. Usually, your teacher gives you enough time to answer all the questions. However, flying through the exam can make it, so you miss mistakes along the way. Even if you finish really early, go back and re-read some of the questions you may have missed along the way.

Changing your Answers - Always go with your gut on the exam unless you are absolutely sure your previous answer is wrong. Changing your answer usually leads to it being wrong. Often times your teacher will always tell you the same thing. Your gut answer is usually the right one. By changing the answer, you risk it being wrong. Stick with your first choice.

This isn't an exhaustive list of making corrections. But it's certainly the most common one. At the end of the day, mistakes happen; it's what you do after. You need to ask yourself why did that mistake happen and how you can avoid it next time. Mistakes are annoying, and they are frustrating but don't let it get to you. You don't want to be thinking about the mistake the next time you write your exam. It can certainly cloud your judgement the next time you make a mistake. Try to overcome the mistake rather than think about it. Everyone can benefit from looking for their mistakes and finding the best ways to deal with them. This is how we can all grow as people to better ourselves.

Taking this precautions above are a great way to mitigate the mistake before they happen. If there is one that you should focus on the most, it's getting enough sleep. A good night's sleep goes a long way for your exam. So spend the time ensuring you get enough hours of sleep. Being tired will end in a lot of easily avoidable mistakes. Don't forget to take our other precautions as well. Then, you'll be on the path to success.
