What is Thai Boxing?

Thai boxing, more commonly referred to as Muay Thai boxing, is Thailand's national sport and cultural martial arts. It was formed 100s years ago to form close combat and used the entire body during a fight. Many that refers to the art of eight limbs. It uses 8 points of contact to become a weapon. For instance, the hands are daggers, the shins and forearm are for blocks, the elbow is like a hammer, and the legs and knees are a heavy mac. The whole body operates as one.

During the first world war, Muay Thai was introduced to Europe and the rest of the world. Thai soldiers were stationed in France and taught the soldiers their fighting style. Thai boxing can be enduring. The workouts are intense, and if you decide to enter the sign one day, it can be known as one of the more dangerous fighting styles. Mauy Thai was originally for soldiers in Thailand. They had one job to do, and that was to kill their opponent. Of course, mauy Thai in the ring is much more civilized. You will have a referee to keep everything fair and everyone safe.

Mauy Thai boxing is a great fitness activity that will get you in tip-top shape. However, you shouldn't expect to gain some serious muscle mass way of training many that. A lot of their workouts are cardio intense. Training for size in that boxing would be insufficient. The extra muscle mass would slow them down during fights. This is why Thai fighters are always reasonably lean.

A typical session could last up to 2 hours. It is usually a mix of training that boxing specifically and then adding in some conditioning. A program for one day could look like this.

5-10 km run
Skipping for 20 minutes
Shadow Boxing or technique practice
Pad work
Bag work
Technical sparring or clinching
General conditioning.

A beginner's program can look a bit different. The form is always addressed throughout much Thai boxing. It all keeps you safe throughout your training. Conditioning is essential to have, but without the proper techniques, your conditioning won't matter. Technique, and then you'll add on to conditioning training.
