The Types of Essays

An essay is a piece of writing that is based on a specific topic or subject. Depending on the outline of the essay, it will give information about the issue that is supported by evidence. An essay can also have opinions and thoughts from the writer. Essays are an excellent way to get across information that you understand. They can also help students develop their writing skills.

The way you tell the information can come in a few different forms. Here are a few other essay formats that you can use to write your essay.

Narrative Essay - It tells the details of a story. Narratives aren't usually used to provide information. Instead, you'll have a plot, set of characters, location and climax.

Descriptive Essay - It'll describe something in detail. The idea or subject of the essay could be anything from people to objects. First, of course, you'll want to describe the object as best you can.

Expository Essay - They look at a problem then explore that problem throughout the writing piece. You want to explain everything in manageable and accessible information.

Argumentative Essay - You'll be trying to persuade the reader to see your viewpoint. It could be about a specific topic that comes to mind.

Now there are other types of essays, but these ones you'll see come up pretty often. Argumentative essays are used in school a lot. You have to showcase your view on something, and it's an excellent way to get that information across

The Essay Structure

All essays will follow a specific structure. Every section is divided into something that has a purpose. When writing your essay, it's essential to keep these in mind to ensure your hitting all your details.

The first part of your essay will also be your introduction. Your introduction is where you present the topic and add in your thesis statement. You may also add in other information that is relatable to the beginning. The next part is the body. The body is the bulk of your essay. You'll want to bring up your core arguments or facts and then your reasoning behind each. A rule of thumb is to have one main point per paragraph. Each paragraph you write in the body should relate to your thesis.

Lastly, the conclusion. Your conclusion is ending your essay. You'll want to sum up your main points as well as show why your argument matters. This is your last chance to get the reader behind your main points. Of course, your structure could change depending on the essay writing and your teacher's grading scheme, but this is a basic structure to get you started.

Once you have a plan for your essay, just pick up that pencil or keyboard and start writing. You'll never get through anything if you don't do this, or it will take you a lot longer. Once you have a rough draft done, then you can go back and figure out what you want to keep or change. Stopping and starting every few minutes is really going to take you out of that state of mind. You won't be able to write continuously. Allow yourself to write the essay and make errors. You'll be able to get a lot of writing done. By not being interpreted, you're able to write freely.
