What is Bodybuilding?
Bodybuilding in the simplest definition is getting bigger muscles. Of course, this is the simplest term that can relate to the average person. Professionals bodybuilders have to look at posing, similarities and few other things when thinking about coming on to the stage. Whether you are on stage or the average person in the gym you're going to follow a few of the similar things
Bodybuilders' style of training is based around hypertrophy. Hypertrophy is a fitness term meaning to increase the growth and size of muscle cells. This causes your muscles to grow. There have been numerous studies that hypertrophy training is the most beneficial for those looking to increase muscle mass. Each exercise is usually performed with high reps to ensure an increase in muscle growth. The intensity for hypertrophy training is still high, but the amount of weight used will be less compared to someone that is a powerlifter for instance.
By doing high repetitions you're breaking down your muscle fibres and when your body repairs those muscle fibres they are bigger and stronger, thus causing an increase in size. How our body grows muscle is of course a more complex definition, but that is an implied version to give you a basis of why bodybuilders use hypertrophy.
