Step 3: Have a Goal
Joining a boxing gym because you want to try it is a reason to join, but having a good goal around boxing or fitness will keep you committed. Boxing can be great for overall health. A goal like weight loss can be a popular goal in boxing for many. Boxing is definitely a good way to expend your energy and help burn calories. Having a goal will also help your coach assist you in reaching them. They can have you performing the right exercise for your goal.
Using the SMART goals is always a good option. It'll set you up for success—specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. Having a good goal sets you up for success. Let's look at an example. If you want to lose 50 pounds, a smart goal would be breaking it up into smaller goals. Start with 10 pounds. Next, set a schedule. You'll want to lose around 1-2 pounds a week, so looking at 10 pounds, you'll lose that in around five weeks. Next, ask yourself is this attainable, which it can be. It's also realistic based on losing 1-2 pounds a week, and our five-week schedule is timed.
An unrealistic goal would be saying you want to lose 25 pounds in 3 weeks. It is very unlikely this can happen. By not reaching your goal it can allow you to lose focus. Setting smart goals can help you achieve your goals because it gives you realistic expectations. Setting unrealistic goals can big issue for others in fitness. Don't let it stop you.
Step 4: Right Equipment
The right equipment could mean a few different things depending on where you train. First, you'll need to gather a few supplies for working out at home, Like a heavy bag, speed bag, gloves, skipping rope, or anything else you may need. Then, of course, talk with your coach to get the right equipment you need. Another important aspect of the equipment is clothing. There is nothing worse than seeing someone box in jeans or tight-fitting clothing. It will affect your workouts. Dressing appropriately will ensure success. You want to be able to move freely. This means buying some workout clothes if you don't have any clothes that match those descriptions.
Equipment when it comes to boxing can be different for everyone. Technically for boxing, you could start with just a pair of gloves and have everything you need. Equipment can come down to the person. Some might say they need everything while others only use a few things. You can talk with your coach about maximizing the equipment you already have or want to get. Money is also another factor when it comes to equipment. Boxing equipment can usually be expensive in price. Finding some boxing equipment second-hand is a good way t save some money.
