When Do Kids Start Learning math?

As we mentioned above, kids starting learning math around the ages 5-7 or grade 1 or 2, but this is the only talking about the equations of math like adding and subtracting. But learning goes beyond those skills at your gage. Kids start learning math from an even earlier age. If we look at toddlers they start playing with blocks or other things that will incorporate math. For instance, toddlers become aware of counting. From counting their toes to stuffed animals on the bed. If you're already doing these things with your toddler you’re teaching them math. You can even take things a step further and pour water from one container to another and know you're introducing addition and subtracting as well as volume.

Once your child reaches the ages of 3 and 5 they’ll start to become familiar with numbers. They’ll be able to see numbers all around like pages on a book. It's important to understand kids are around math from a very young age, although they may not understand the concepts of math there becoming more and more familiar with them.

Why Do Kids Hate Math?

Most kids don't enjoy doing practice questions or sitting in class learning about different concepts of math, but why? Learning the fundamentals of math from a young age will be beneficial as they continue to grow up, but most students see math as a chore and not as something they need to learn. Nobody likes doing things there not interested in. Math can be seen as very concrete but that doesn't have to be the case. Students can learn math through visuals or with games to bring their interest into math.

If your students or even child is feeling like math is a chore using visuals or games can grab their attention and help them want to learn math. You can even incorporate math throughout the day instead of all at once. Bringing up basic math problems like addition and subtracting can become easier the more they are familiar with it.

You can usually find me writing at a cafe sipping on coffee or working out at the gym. I fell in love with writing a few years ago and have never looked back. I love being able to share my words with the world.
