Keyboard shortcuts can be a lifesaver for anyone in Canada that uses the computer. That may come off as a little dramatic. Still, they'll save you time, and you'll have an easier time navigating the computer. There are lots of keyboard shortcuts on a Windows keyboard that everyone should know about. They can make you more efficient no matter what you use the computer for, whether for work, school or just casually.
After you start using these shortcuts, you'll see the value in knowing them. It may seem small using a keyboard shortcut, but how much longer would it take not to use them? You're getting convenience when you use a keyboard shortcut. We're going to mention the basic ones for those of you that aren't using any shortcut.
For anyone that spends time on a computer using your mouse will take longer than using a shortcut. A mouse is what most people are used to, but once you get comfortable using these shortcuts, you'll never want to touch your mouse again. You can even time yourself using a mouse when pasting or copying something, and you'll be surprised by the amount of time you'll save.
8 Windows Keyboard Shortcuts
It's going to take some time to remember these shortcuts, but it's a skill that can benefit you for a lifetime. If you're going to use the computer, using the computer more efficiently will give you the best experince. Once you start using one shortcut, you'll end up using them all. They do make a difference when you are working, in school or using the computer causally. Experience the difference and check out these Windows keyboard shortcuts.
Ctrl + C
Copy is something everyone will use when on a computer. Whether you're using it for work, school or home use, the copy command is one of the most used. It can take a lot of extra time to highlight text and then hit copy.
This is a shortcut every should be using on their Windows computer. It quickly copies the selected text. Ctrl + C is available to use whether you're on the web or using software like Word. It makes copying any selected item easy and convenient. Instead of using this keyboard shortcut, you have to go edit and then find a copy.
Ctrl + V
Paste is another shortcut everyone will use. You’ll be able to paste anything you want quickly without spending the extra time manually pasting.
Ctrl + V goes along perfectly with Ctrl + C. It allows you to paste an item that is copied. Instead of going to edit and then paste, you'll easily be able to copy items. Again, this feature works anywhere you can post texts. It can also be used to paste photos onto a document as well. If you haven't been using this shortcut, you'll definitely be saving time.
Ctrl + Z
Everyone has one time, or another lost something on the keyboard. Usually, it's because you didn’t mean to. Luckily the undo shortcut is perfect for these situations.
Ctrl + Z allows you to breathe when you make a mistake using the computer. Whether you have just deleted something or lost something, Ctrl + Z is the undo button. It brings it right back. I like Ctrl + Z because it's not readily known and the undo button isn't an option; when you make a mistake, you can quickly fix it. It works on most software and platforms, so definitely start using this.
Ctrl + P
Print is another shortcut that everyone can benefit from knowing. This keyboard shortcut quickly brings up the print screen. On the page you're currently on, it brings you to the print screen. This shortcut can sometimes limit your frustration when you want to get something.
Finding the option to print isn't the easiest when on specific platforms or software. By using Ctrl + P, you can easily print anything. It also takes longer to click print on your computer manually. You’ll save time instantly with these keyboard shortcuts.
Ctrl + D
Shortcuts save you time. This shortcut can save you endless clicking or dragging files into the trash bin. You don't have to worry about putting in the extra work.
Let's you constantly put files into the trash bin. Instead of right-clicking or heading to the top of the page with your mouse, Ctrl + D allows you to put anything in the trash bin quickly. For some, this can save you a lot of time when needing to delete files.
Ctrl + A
This shortcut is my personal favourite and something I recently discovered a few years ago. Ctrl + A allows you to highlight everything on your screen. Let's say you're using Word and you want to highlight everything either to change the text, colour or copy it.
You could just hit Ctrl + A. By not using the shortcut, you have to click and drag your mouse over the whole document, which can be difficult when highlighting multiple pages. It's a shortcut everyone can benefit from.
Alt + Down Arrow or Alt Up Arrow
Using this shortcut allows you to scroll through web pages or documents a lot easier. The scroll can sometimes be a little too quick if the web page or form is too long. Using this shortcut Alt + Down arrow or Up arrow allows you to quickly flip through each page without losing your spot or going too far up or down.
Ctrl + F4
It lets you quickly close down the window you have open. It will only close down the one window; it won't close everything down. This is perfect when you have too many tabs open and want to delete some quickly; otherwise, you have to click each tab, which can be more time-consuming manually.
These keyboard shortcuts are only just the beginning. There are lots of other shortcuts you can use on the keyboard. These shortcuts are just some of the most common and ones you’ll frequently use. Sometimes these can be toggled off on your computer. Check out this link.
