I base my classes firstly on the need for a good relationship between student and teacher. The more language a student produces, the faster their English will improve, so I work hard to make my lessons engaging and interesting to each individual student. I construct lesson plans and create content specific to the needs and interest of my students. Students often comment on the creativity and fun of my lesson plans.
I follow a Cambridge English methodology, by which new language is explored, clarified and practiced in both controlled and free exercises. An hour long lesson will always include a warm-up and revision exercise, a new piece of target language identified and clarified, controlled practice of the target language, and finally free practice and use of the target language to express the student's own ideas.
I have access to a wide range of textbooks and professional resources, including interactive textbooks designed specifically for online teaching.
I am always open to tailoring my lesson plans to meet a student's specific needs.
I'm a British language teacher with several years of experience teaching English language to adults and children for both academic and business purposes. In 2019 I received a Pass B (merit) grade in my CELTA qualification, awarded to only a small percentage of candidates. I hold a Masters degree in History from University of Amsterdam, achieving an 84 grade in my final thesis in 2020.
I am experienced in preparing students for a wide range of examinations, including IELTS, FCE and Trinity ESOL.
I have taught English in a variety of settings, including in busy language schools such as Kaplan and working with companies such as Codelabs software developers. I am now working as a freelance teacher to maximise my teaching time.
For an additional rate I can grade and improve a student's English writing, whether personal, academic or professional writing.
