About Sophia
I attend Rice University and am majoring in civil engineering with a concentration in environmental engineering. I am minoring in energy and water sustainability along with astronomy. In high school, I competed on an environmental academic team called Envirothon where we placed 2nd nationally last summer and 10th the summer previous. I volunteered at the Tyler Arboretum during my sophomore and junior year summer where I gained a lot of experience teaching people of all ages, and I gained additional experience working with younger kids during my six years of competing on three separate swim teams.
I love being able to help others, especially when it comes to things that I am confident and passionate about such as math and science.

For math and science, the most important way to learn is through practice problems and pattern recognition. If a student can achieve this and ask questions along the way to deepen their understanding, they will succeed. I am good at predicting which parts of a problem are likely to confuse a student and take extra care to explain those sections more thoroughly. Lessons are for elementary, middle, and high school students.
