The world is connected in more ways than one can imagine, you just have to "do the math." Every student is unique in terms of the way they perceive the world around them. When explaining concepts to students, it is very important to draw analogies to make sure they see the value of what they are learning. We all had that one moment in a math class where we say "why am I learning this?"
When a student does not see the value of what they are learning, they tend to tune out. Therefore, I adopt a very dynamic style of teaching that can be fine-tuned to each subject and each student. Normally, I start the teaching session by showing students what they can do with the material they are about to learn. Then, I proceed to explain the material along with the underlying concepts. At the end of the session, the students would leave with a solid understanding of the material and will be ready to take-on more advanced subjects.
I am a Civil Engineer with a Master of Science Degree. I have 2+ years of teaching experience. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a passion for teaching. I started out by helping my classmates prepare for exams. By the end of my undergraduate degree, I was holding group sessions (~10 students) for tutoring/exam preparations for 3rd and 4th year in advanced engineering courses such as Engineering Statics, dynamics and thermodynamics. During my masters, I mentored and supported the educational experience of classes of 150+ students, holding office hours and providing one-on-one sessions for anyone struggling with course material.
