About the lesson
My lessons are student based and centered around the specific needs that students have. I believe that everyone's background is essential to who they are as a person and I encourage students to bring that to the classroom. I use presentations, visual elements, and student focused activities to build grammar and vocabulary skills. I prefer to focus on fluency before accuracy to help students become comfortable with English and to encourage students to push forward with their learning.

Perfect! Jaymee is an English teacher for my son (grade 9) for improving his writing skills. She finds his strengths and encourages him to learn English. He said her teaching is very easy to understand and he feels he can improve more and more from now. She has lots of experience teaching, so she can adjust her teaching style to each student. She is friendly and responsible too. I'm happy that I could find her as his tutor on Superprof.

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I first decided to get a degree in ESL when I was in my last year of high school. I knew I wanted to teach, but I wasn't sure that I wanted to stay in Canada. I found the BA Applied Linguistics: TESOL program at Briercrest and I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
I am passionate about ESL because I love to teach and I love providing resources for people who can use them. There is a big demand for ESL teachers and instructors and I want to do everything I can to help provide that service. I also know that many people who have moved to Canada do not have a lot of skills in English and just need more practice with grammar and pronunciation.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
I like that I can take on as many clients as I feel comfortable with and I can be flexible with my time and pricing.
I think that I am a "Superprof" simply because I am willing to share my passion and my skills. I have the training but I also have the drive to better myself and become the best teacher I can be.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.
My role model is my high school math and science teacher, Mr. S. He was passionate about teaching and most importantly, he was passionate about helping students succeed. I don't think I ever saw a teacher give up as many lunch breaks or stay after school as long as he did. He had a great sense of humour and never made anyone feel bad about not understanding the concept or for asking too many questions. I only wish I had asked more questions and took him up on some of his offers to stay after school or at lunch to help me. Mr. S. has been a great inspiration to me!
What are your keys to success?
I would have to say my #1 key to success is to laugh. Rather than always being frustrated about making a mistake or struggling to understand a concept, take a moment, breathe, find a reason to laugh or to relax, and then move forward. Giving yourself a little bit of mercy and grace will go a long way. Not everything has to be perfect the first time around, and if you constantly think that way, you will find it very hard to succeed and be happy.
