About Luke

I am a driven individual who is working toward a life of fulfilment in all facets. I live a life to be happy and a number of things factor into that. My hobbies consist of travelling, snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, reading and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy helping others, which ties into why I want to tutor. Being tutored made a huge difference in my school life and was the reason I was able to get straight A's at A-Level. Moreover, after university, I want to get into social work and help improve the lives of those that are disadvantaged.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is balancing what is suitable for the specific student I am tutoring (tailored to your needs) and my standard methods. I am able to do online lessons or in-person lessons, whatever the student is more comfortable with. My methods consist of first going over the questions I set for my student in their last lesson. These questions will be specific to what the student was struggling with in the topic we were going over. After making sure my student understands the answers to their best ability, we will move on to either continuing on the current topic the student is struggling with or learning a new topic that the student is yet to have learned. I make sure to tick 3 boxes when teaching my students, asking open-ended questions, asking probing questions and lastly rephrasing my questions (if needed of course). My typical length of a lesson is usually 1-hour as I believe anything shorter is not very beneficial whilst with lessons too long, students tend to lose focus. I can easily do up to 2 hours but it is very dependent on how well I think the student can focus.

In terms of qualifications, I am currently an undergraduate at a top 10 university in the UK studying philosophy. I received 4 A's at A-Level whilst balancing tutoring GCSE students at my school. I also tutored an A-level student studying psychology during my gap year. Moreover, I received a TEFL certificate to teach English when I used to live in China (I was born and raised there).

My lessons are for any GCSE and KS3 students, which is in the 12-16 age range.
