Aside from teaching the foundations and curriculum of natural sciences and math, I strive to give students the insight and deeper understanding they often lack from school, which is in fact critical to appreciating, enjoying and utilizing these subjects.
The lessons are usually centered on a specific topic that the student needs to understand, but I always try to give an idea how they fit into the overall picture, because the overall picture is what matters in the end and what the science is always trying to describe. The lessons are interactive, with me asking questions as well and trying to make students think and come up with solutions on their own.
I try my best not to pile lists of facts on students, but rather show them how to deduce a lot of the facts by logic, to understand their relationships and therefore make them easier to remember.
Online lessons are done using online whiteboard with no delay and notes and drawings we create during the lesson are sent to the student at the end for future reference.
I am a researcher with PhD in Biochemistry currently working at University of Calgary and I have always loved privatly tutoring natural sciences, math (and english when in Europe) in my spare time.
I have been teaching privately for over ten years now and for more than two years at a university as well. I have mentored around 200 people over that time including consulting two bachelor students of biochemistry.
Vast majority of the students improved their grades, passed important exams or have simply fallen in love with the subjets they were taught and which they sometimes hated before due to confusion or bad teacher in school. That was always extremely rewarding to hear for me as a tutor.
I have only recently moved to Canada from Czechia, but I was pleased to find the educational system here very similar and the science of course the same :)
I charge a travel fee of $4 if I need to travel more than 5 km or $8 if more than 10 km.
