My teaching methods depend greatly on the age of the student, as well as their experience. For children around 6 years old, I may use a booklet, and have them draw a fretboard or parts of the guitar. I may create games where they label parts of the instrument. We could select notes to make our own song. Or select notes to spell a word (Dad, Bag, etc). Whereas teaching a high school student with particular musical taste, may involve arranging their favourite songs to best suit the music itself, and their playing level. Above all, I make sure the students are playing music, and not only exercises.
I am a graduate student at the University of Toronto, studying classical guitar performance. Along with my performance studies, I am doing research regarding sound production on the guitar. My research will analyze phenomena of string length, and dampening along the strings node, and suggest a performance practice to better control these factors. I have taught music for 8 years, to varying levels of musicians. I have also taught group classes and classrooms for two years.
