I have more than five years experience as a personal tutor, specialising in English, MFL and Humanities subjects. I am a qualified teacher with a deep commitment to supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with SEN issues; particularly ASD. I hold a first class degree in English from the Universities of Amsterdam and Sussex and an MA (with Merit) from University College London. I work with students on a one-on-one basis or in small groups with a student-focused approach. My work has helped my students gain places at highly prestigious universities, increase their professional opportunities and improved their well-being significantly. I hope to hear from you very soon.
I have more than a decade of stage experience, including two years of drama school education where I was trained as and actor and performer. I have worked as a stand-up comedian since 2009 and have taught stand-up to undergraduates at University. I also direct and support performers with voice, physicality, writing for performance and public speaking skills.
I met Jorik through a book club and, wanting to improve my French conversation, I asked him to give me French lessons once a week. He is a very effective tutor, knowledgeable, professional and friendly, and I very much enjoy my lessons with him. He is reliable and flexible around my needs, and I would recommend him highly as a tutor.
Jorik gave my 16 year old son French lessons on a weekly basis for 6 months. He was always prompt, courteous and reliable. I liked his approach with my son, which was to find what interested him generally, and then try to address this via the French language. I would definitely recommend French lessons with Jorik.
Jorik teaches me Dutch language. He has a capacity and enthusiasm to give insight into all aspects of language and culture. I found his pronunciation tips invaluable. He knows that learning is most effective if it is 'right brain' as well as 'left brain', i.e. using images, video, etc not just dry text, and uses suitable resources for that. He has always been very reliable in setting and keeping appointments. And he is an all round interesting and nice person to chat with!

My work is student-focused, as each student has different needs. As a result, my teaching strategies take studying habits, time management skills and psycho-social issues into account. I work with Secondary age students and adults alike, assessing their individual needs and ambitions and how I can best support them to achieve their goals.
