About the lesson
I like to ask students what they know about the subject in general and have a conversation with them to build a more positive learning environment. Then I like to ask them questions to see what they know more specifically about the subject/homework. Then I would work on it together with them before getting them to tackle it on their own. I like to encourage student to explore/inquire about their ideas, so if they come up with something in the middle of the lesson I would write it down and include it/research about it for a following lesson, or try to explore it right then if appropriate.
