Methodology

I base my teaching on each students individual strengths and weaknesses - I am a firm believer of keeping lessons fun and interactive as I believe this allows each students to take in a lot more information as they are relaxed and willing to learn! That being said, I ensure to target all areas which need to be worked on in order to make the most of each lesson, with a plan being prepared beforehand and homework being set after, too.

Background

I hold a BA Hons in English Literature, and have taught English and lower level Maths in the past for 1-2 years. I have a passion for Literature and Language and believe I work best in 1 to 1 sessions as it allows me to tailor my lessons to each students requirements!

I am a very punctual, hard-working individual who is always on the search for different opportunities that will allow me to expand my current abilities and develop myself as a worker. I am also skilled in computer software so I am able to keep things documented successfully. In particular, I enjoy keeping things organised and also have excellent communicative skills, therefore I believe I excel at administrative/receptionist work. When I am introduced to something new I am determined to be a fast learner and carry out tasks to my full capability, therefore I do very well under pressured circumstances and can work through a fast paced environment. Aside from that, I am an avid fan of art and literature meaning I enjoy creating pieces of my own art as well as reading.

I took part in volunteer work for Islamic Relief and the Global Peace and Unity Event. This included collecting donations and leafleting as well as selling merchandise in order to raise awareness of the cause. I also raised money and awareness for Great Ormond Street Hospital as part of a school task which included a lot of team work and co-operative skills. I am determined to further improve these skills and be the best that I can be, which is why I believe that I can contribute a lot to a working environment. I am very passionate about completing tasks to the best of my abilities and am constantly challenging myself so that I am able to exceed.

During this period of work, I was placed in charge of making sure that the center was running smoothly by handling parents’ enquiries as well as dealing with any issues that students had in regards to their education schedule, etc…

Here are some of the tasks that I was carrying out on a day-to-day basis:

-Introducing the system to parents and students who came in with queries about the center, and having them booked in for taster sessions.
-Registering new students into the system via Excel.
-Handling payments, ensuring that each parent gets their receipt and next date of due payment.
-Entering new payments into the system.
-Keeping track of a register to ensure all students attendance is documented.
-Finding suitable resources for students and printing them off for the teachers to use.
-Ordering supplies for the center.
-Ensuring all parents and students were in a hospitable environment and happy with their experience.

Once I had begun teaching at Excel Tuition, I was able to get a grasp of what I intended to do in future, which was to teach. I was able to teach a wide age range of students and come to terms with which teaching methods were most appropriate for each age group, my tasks included the following:

-Gathering relevant teaching resources for my students.
-Grading assessment papers at the beginning of their course and analysing where they were struggling so that I would be able to help strengthen their weaknesses most efficiently.
-Grading assessment papers as their tuition continued, ensuring that there were assessments after each topic had been covered in order to evaluate how well they had understood said topic, and if it were time to move on to the next.
-Handling any queries parents had in regards to how their child’s session had run and how much progress they had made.
-Filling in progress reports every fortnight for each student.
-Filling in tracking sheets after each session for each student.
-Ensuring each student had homework after each session which had been recorded.
-In each sessions I would have a maximum of 4 students so I had to ensure each student was being given equal amounts of attention so as to maximise their learning experience.
