My teaching methods are designed to inspire confidence. Usually I would ask the students to show me some work where they have received a low mark so we can talk through where the student has gone wrong, why they might have made this mistake and how this can be fixed. Teachers rarely have time to explain their feedback and in essay subjects, most mistakes are made when a student is confused about why something in their writing is wrong or a low mark when essays are so flexible. We would then discuss different methods to develop analytical and communication skills within an essay so these problems are removed and the student can reach the higher marks. I believe that school can be stressful and busy enough without me setting additional homework, however, I would expect the students to bring me their next completed piece of homework to me and point out several examples to me where they have attempted to apply the methods I have shown them. This will demonstrate how well they have understood what I’m teaching and whether they can successfully repeat it by themselves. I want my students to become confident in their own academic ability.
I am a History student at University College London currently on exchange at University of Toronto. I have tutored English,History, Politics and Classics for three years. All of my students moved up at least one letter grade, with the majority moving up two. At school I also ran MUN teaching important debate skills. Last summer I was accepted onto the highly competitive CSSC summer camp where I taught English for two weeks in Guangzhou to Chinese children. I have studied English to a high academic level as I took it for A-Level and have taken several university modules in it. I achieved the top university grade band in all of these modules.
