About Stephen

I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language for the last ten years or so, having worked previously in accounts and retail management. I believe that the combination of my life and work experiences, plus my high-level teaching qualifications enable me to teach English across a range of levels and pathways with a high degree of commitment, good humour and empathy.

About the lesson

Hi. I have the qualifications and experience to teach EFL (English as a Foreign Language) at all levels, ranging from ESOL to advanced Cambridge-based examinations. I am able to get on well with all types of people and I always try extremely hard to conduct lessons in a pleasant atmosphere which encourages learning.

I have learned many techniques and encountered a variety of learning styles, so I try to tailor the work with my students to the method that works best for them. This includes the length of the lessons, which is between 1 and 2 hours depending on the students’ requirements.

One of my particular advantages is that I can speak several languages quite well (and a few others at a lower level - I'm currently trying to learn Arabic!), and so I can understand better than most teachers the problems which the English language can present to non-native speakers from various backgrounds.

I also have a range of interests plus a strong general knowledge about other countries which often enables me to talk to my students about such things as the history and culture of their countries, something which they usually appreciate and enjoy.
