I have known my teacher for over 4 years. Fernanda is the most supportive teacher I have come across. She taught me AS and Alevel Psychology. I moved schools so had to relearn AS Psychology from a different exam board. She easily adapted her teaching when I changed exam boards and was equipped for it. She is up to date with the specification and being an examiner, she has full knowledge of what/how to write to gain full marks. She has the ability to work on and guide you into strengthening your (writing) skills. She helps you overcome areas you struggle in, like a particular module. For instance as I did not enjoy Research Methods, she would also provide exercise questions weekly to target that area. She has patience to reteach an aspect you don’t understand in the first go. She has an effective strategy in which you become able to understand and memorise knowledge vital when sitting the main exam. She is well prepared and shapes her lessons in a way that you are well prepared to sit a test. Moreover, even with her planned lessons, and how she always covers all the content (Based on the exam board specification) if one week I came with questions about a school lesson, she is flexible and focuses on what I want to learn or need help in. She gives you the practice you need to perform well in school. Fernanda is able to give constructive feedback after reviewing the work I hand in, and each of her feedback allows me to improve on my academic work boosting my grades. Personally, I started off not confident in this subject and she is one of the main reasons I fell in love with the subject so much I am now doing a degree in Psychology and did well in my Alevels all round. As a teacher she does not just focus on the content, but she supported me in other aspects that helped me gain more knowledge in Psychology; including Conference recommendations, signing up to BPS, work experience at a Psychology department in a Hospital or writing about Psychology in my personal statement. The reason she is a successful Tutor is she makes sure she fully teaches you the subject to the maximum as well as teaching you revision/study skills that you can apply to other subjects. She has structure to her lessons where the objective is met, content is learnt in a interactive way through videos, reading, discussing, illustrating as well as exam questions. She is a very involved teacher and that is why her students do well because more than a tutor she wants us to do well in our studies than for the sake of providing standard knowledge. She provides a positive work space for her students and has built rapport with them early on so they feel confident to express their doubts in a module and enjoy actively learning. At a time where there are teachers who keep an eye on the time, Fernanda has always given up extra time to make sure the students fully understand what has been taught. If I was unable to attend a class, she’s willing to work out another time to cover the content suited to both our timings. These are some of the many qualities Fernanda possesses, she has been an excellent tutor and wonderful role model for me.
