About Rum

Hi! My name is Rum (they/them) and I am a youth and community worker, vegetarian chef and language tutor. I have been passionate about learning languages ever since I started lessons at school, but I know how daunting a new language can be for many people. A whole new vocabulary...pronunciation...grammar! As a student-centred teacher I will learn about what works for you when it comes to language acquisition. I am especially happy to explore creative methods using games, songs, media and trips to reinforce our learning. I have worked with children and young people of all ages (3-25) and have a lot of experience working with neurodivergent people too, so I am more than happy to adjust lessons to suit individual needs. About the lesson

I am a creative and compassionate tutor who has many years of experience working with children and young people of all ages and backgrounds. I take a student-centred approach, aiming to deliver lessons in a way that is accessible and fun for them, ensuring that we review our learning as we go. I have a BA (first) in Spanish and Cultural Studies from the University of Sussex, a Youth Work Level 2 Diploma, training in Social Prescribing, as well as Youth Mental Health First Aid. My experience has mostly been as an English tutor in Guadalajara, Mexico, but I have been informally teaching young people and children through my work in after school programmes, youth groups and faith-based learning programmes over the years. Lessons can be adapted to suit the learner and I am happy to teach all ages, as I have experience working with all ages!
