About Darion
From 2016 - 2020 I studied Russian at UCLA as part of the US government sponsored Russian Flagship Program. I also lived and studied in Kazakhstan for 2 months with a host family that did not speak any English. Trust me, nothing will teach you Russian better than getting food poisoning and needing to communicate with your host family about what you need. It was in Kazakhstan that I learned just how critical proper accent is in order to be understood. Good grammar and extensive vocab can only get you so far if they don’t know what words you’re saying. Although I’m not a native speaker, I know what it’s like to learn Russian from scratch.

Russian is a hard and mysterious language, with a rich literary and cultural history. It is also one of the most sought after critical languages of our time.
Whether you’re just starting to think about learning Russian, or need a refresher from your previous studies and Duolingo isn’t cutting it, our time together will help you reach your language goals.
We will learn the basics of literacy, grammar, and vocab, but the main focus will be on accent and confidence. Russian is a language where proper pronunciation is key to interacting with native speakers, and is often the biggest barrier for new learners.
