Guitar player for over 8 years giving Fingerstyle Guitar lessons for students in the GTA area

Methodology

My teaching methodology consists of three main techniques: visualizations through chord diagrams and in depth tablature, gamification and self-learning/motivation. In a typical class I would first take up any questions/concerns associated with the previous lesson. Next we would either: 1: Continue with the song that has been brought in by the student, 2: Start a new song altogether, listen to the song along with the student and go over sections of the song that present the student with difficulty or 3: Teach students about various fingerstyle techniques applicable to their current abilities. We would conclude the lesson by summarizing the key points learned throughout the lesson. My fundamental philosophy is what makes me different from other teachers. My philosophy states: "if you are forced to play a song that you are not passionate about you will not play it well. On the contrary if you choose a song that you are passionate about you will play well and will love the process of playing! Practicing guitar will no longer feel like a chore but rather a stepping stone to reach your destination of completing the song". Overall, I teach both beginner and intermediate guitar players from all ages interested in fingerstyle acoustic guitar.

Hi my name is Larry and I have been playing guitar for over 8 years; predominantly fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I was a student at Long & McQuade, ProGuitarStudios and Merriam Music. I have been a private guitar teacher for well over a year teaching pop and jazz songs to my students.

I became of student of Larry's after wanting to play the music I listen to for years. He is very proficient in various genres, specifically teaching me how to play hip-hop songs. His teaching methods are really helpful and are good for any beginner. One particular experience I've had with Larry is: After a song came out by my favourite artist, Larry helped me dissect the song. Slowly with his help, I would become familiar with each verse, bridge, and chorus and not only did I learn how to play the song, but I also became better at playing the guitar.
