I am currently a high school science teacher who has extensive experience in research and teaching science courses. My teaching philosophy is based upon an evolutionary approach where learning is a journey to a specific goal. An effective teacher provides multiple opportunities along this journey for the student to learn and redirect their trajectory to a closer understanding of the concept taught. Along this voyage the teacher and student are constantly giving feedback to each other to provide data for the adaptations needed by both to decrease the distance to the learning goal. Throughout this journey, I integrate educational research into teaching methods to provide the most effective education possible. In addition, my lessons are geared towards students at all levels of academics because I adapt to the way the student learns.
I am currently a high school science department head and teacher who has had close to 15 years experience in developing the skills necessary to be successful in motivating and educating students. I have extensive knowledge and experience in assessing, evaluating and reporting within the guidelines of the Ontario Secondary Curriculum. The subjects I have taught include science, chemistry, biology and physics to grades 9 through 12 within the secondary system. I have blended many of these courses with on-line teaching platforms to enhance student experience. My duties as a department head have included teaching other educators the most effective methods to facilitate the learning of students. My experience outside of the classroom have included coaching cross country running for the past 12 years.
I have been a teacher with Thames Valley District School Board for 14 years and have taught a range of science courses at the high school level. I am a dynamic, passionate, and dedicated educator who successfully applies teaching research and technology with every student.
