My instructional methods are based on the same ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis) techniques used in the classroom, depending on the needs of the student. Due to my work experience, I have a number of colleagues and resources to draw upon after an initial assessment of the students needs, in order to best serve them. Once we determine the needs of the student, a plan can be developed and closely monitored for efficacy.
I am a former Educational Assistant with the Limestone District School Board. I spent 5 years working with children who had a range of mental health issues, but typically children on the autism spectrum. I am trained in applied behavioural analysis techniques and have successfully developed many behaviour plans for a number of students over the years.
During my studies and through my professional career, I took part in a number of workshops and courses to develop my toolkit in dealing with many mental health issues including, but not limited to: addictions, ADHD, ASD, ODD, FAS and more.
Webcam lessons can be offered depending on the student's ability level, otherwise in-home visits are ideal. Cancellations 24 hours in advance will not be charged. If I have to cancel, a free session will be offered or you will be refunded for the time missed. A flat rate of $5 is added for travel expenses.
Educational Assistant - Limestone District School Board (2011-2016)
Responsible for acting as classroom support, assisting with the delivery of curriculum and working one-on-one with youth aging from 4 to 21 (affected by a range of mental illnesses, including but not limited to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other anxiety disorders, conduct disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down’s Syndrome, etc.) I often work according to the student’s behaviour/safety plan (and have had to assist in their preparation, in several cases) to achieve their established behavioural and academic objectives, providing ongoing feedback to teachers, principals and social workers and developing positive relationships to establish the best possible learning environment for the student. This includes developing a range of strategies from therapeutic counseling to token economies, to modified schedules and alternative learning environments based on their specialized needs, in order for the student to reach his or her potential socially, emotionally and academically.
