My teaching methods have developed from the notion that every student learns different and it’s important to adapt to each individual student. I believe that in order for students to succeed and feel as though they are, we must engage them in their own learning. Once this has been done students will develop higher expectations of their own skills and feel as if they have succeeded.
I am currently a teacher candidate at the University of Ottawa in the primary/junior division. I recently graduated from the university of Ottawa with a masters in educational leadership. Prior to that I graduated from Carleton University with an undergrad in Criminology and Criminal Justice concentrating in Law and minoring in Psychology. From there I went on to be a student aid in Montreal working with a student in the classroom and at home who had selective mutism and severe anxiety. I assisted in creating a positive learning environment for the student, as well as tutoring after school. I have volunteered at a youth center in Ottawa working with and tutoring youths ranging in age from 12-18. This past year I just completed the Big Brothers and Big Sisters in school mentorship program where I met with a student once a week.
