I base my theory and technique teaching on the RCM curriculum. However, these are but a means rather than an end: the RCM curriculum provides a solid stem which makes the progress more apparent, but from this stem I would like to expand, according to the needs and interest of the student, to wider genres of music repertoire, technique practices and study of theory--- I believe the fostering of the passion in music more important than passing exams. My ideal sixty minutes classes are each of them clearly divided into three sections aiming at first, techniques, then repertoire, and last but not least, theory. The length of each section may of course be varied, according to the student's progress.
I am a first year Piano Performance Major at the University of Saskatoon as I just switched to it from third year Philosophy. I am now taking a year off from school to work so I can go back next year. I am currently grade 8 RCM and working on Grade 10 before going back to school.
I offer a free 40-minutes-trial-class (optional). If the student (and/or the parents) is willing to continue, the rate is 30$/class, an hour each class. I require payment for four classes ($120) in advance. As for cancelation/rescheduling: I require 5 hours notice ahead, or no refund (unless in the cases of emergency). Thank you.
