I have spent years teaching people to play music totally by ear. This allows the student to make rapid progress in the specific area they want. The student picks the songs they want to learn and together we figure out the notes and chords and come up with an arrangement that is suited to the student. Through doing this we learn from each songs about how music is put together and heard.
I have been singing and playing piano for 25 years. I have performed duelling pianos on cruise ships and on four continents. Dueling Pianos requires the performer to have thousands of songs memorized. I developed a technique to learn music by ear and teach it to others.
Dueling Pianos Touring Act
Jamie Mahn MUSIC ON FOUR CONTINENTS
2014 - 2021
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Our Dueling Pianos EXTREME takes the traditional show to a whole new level. There are two pianos with a wide range of sounds such has guitars, bass, drums, strings, etc. allowing us to recreate a true likeness of the songs that are requested by the audience. We also use video screens as part of our show to enhance the experience, for comedy and visualizations. Multiple instruments like sax, trumpet, flute and accordion are also used. Add in a stadium style laser light show, and concert hall sound quality. The result in a fully unique and personal experience. Our show has the best parts of dueling pianos with a whole lot more. We are based in Sylvan Lake and tour across Canada from Victoria to Ontario. We have done over 700 performances including a tour of Europe and North Africa on a cruise ship.
I managed all the bookings and business side of this show. I booked half corporate shows and the other half were concerts I booked the venue, promoted, sold tickets for, and performed in the show.

2009 - 2010
Howl At The Moon- Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
Howl At The Moon offered me a position as the entertainment director of their brand venture in Scottsdale, Arizona. My position here, in addition to being a full time player, was to manage the entertainment staff. Duties include scheduling and clerical, organizing and running rehearsals, recruiting and training new players, as well as being responsible for the overall success and integrity of the show.
2008 - 2009
Howl At The Moon- Singapore, Asia
Taking all my knowledge and experience, I moved to Singapore to help open the first dueling piano bar in Asia. I advised the owner on everything from the layout of the room and marketing, to handling purchasing and setting up of all the sound and light equipment. My ability to entertain diverse crowds was tested and proven here as there were as many as 20 different cultures in the room at one time. Singapore is such a multi-cultural location, that the job title for a performer there was truly that of “entertainer”. You had to be very quick, adept and creative to handle such a wide range of needs from audiences including differences in song choice, tastes in comedy, and language barriers. This was truly the most difficult room I have played, but I have grown leaps and bounds as an entertainer because of the demands set against me. Along with my ability to “work the room”, I constantly amazed audiences with my multi instrumental abilities as I moved from piano to drums, bass, guitar, sax, flute, clarinet, trumpet, recorder, harmonica and accordion. It was a truly amazing and rewarding learning experience for me.
Asia Uncut- Singapore
I was a part of the stage band for Asia Uncut, which is the Eastern version of Lettermen. We wrote the theme music, incidental music, and played on and off all the guests on the show. Some of the guests included Brendan Fraser, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Blunt, and Ethan Hawke among others.
Crazy Pianos- The Hague, Holland
I traveled to work at a dueling piano bar in Holland for a summer to hone my chops playing for European audiences. I acquired a new skill set here as the demands of this clientele were totally different from the America audiences. This show required an even higher energy output, and musically perfect performance.
2005 – 2008
Howl At The Moon- Orlando, Florida
I left the cruise industry to assist in the opening of Howl At The Moon’s Orlando location. I arrived in Orlando several months before the opening to aid in the set up of the club. This included sound and light equipment set up, as well as entertainer preparations and team building. For the next three years I helped build the venue up from a new business to a successful and seasoned operation. I worked along side some of the most experienced piano bar veterans in the world. During my time with Howl At The Moon, I traveled to help out at other locations in the country including Ft. Lauderdale, San Antonio, Tampa, Chicago and Kansas City.
