I see mathematics as the combination of intuitive art and rigorous craft, both of which I teach. My methodology begins with determining where a student stands in terms of background and interest. After that, the student has the option between allowing me to develop a specialized curriculum, or bringing topics to me in order to obtain assistance. For students who are ready, I teach how to do proofs in order to prepare for university (e.g. the MAT102 course at UTM) or solve creative problems from algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory in order to train for math contests (Waterloo CEMC, CMS COMC, AMC). Other students prefer to focus on topics from school. I believe in the idea of breaking down each idea into simple, understandable pieces that harmoniously come together. I teach using an interactive pen tablet and an online video platform like Zoom. I give small amounts of insightful homework, and am available via text, email or Telegram.
Seraj is one of our best tutors. High-quality profile and excellent qualifications, organised and responsive to lesson requests, appreciated by their students!
Academically, I graduated from the University of Toronto in mathematics and with membership at Trinity College. While in university, I was a teaching assistant and grader for a world-class online education company. At the time, I also received two prestigious research grants and attended several conferences. In my senior undergradute year, I was elected the President of the Mathematics Union. After graduation, I joined the aforementioned education company full-time and spent consecutive one-year periods on teaching hundreds of successful students in several courses, developing the curriculum for an advanced math contest preparation course, and being the direct manager of a team of over 500 educators in San Diego, California. I love to learn and teach mathematics, specifically proofs, math contests and competitions, algebra, geometry, and discrete math such as number theory and combinatorics. Currently, I am the owner of Existsforall Academy, a math school for motivated students. In my spare time, I volunteer on a University of Waterloo committee for developing their difficult Problem of the Month, and on the editorial board of a problem-solving journal at the Canadian Mathematical Society.
The rate is somewhat negotiable based on the level of the student, the lesson preparation time, and homework evaluation time involved. It is in Canadian dollars. We can talk about it during the first free session.
What you will need to supply for yourself is a computer with a microphone, headphones or speakers, a free Zoom account, and a reliable internet connection.

Perfect! Very happy with Seraj. He was well prepared for each session. Very patience, offered additional practice questions along with time management tips for exams. Highly recommended.
The student is hard-working and industrious. Over time, his mathematical skills improved greatly. He is now very capable of writing mathematical proofs, which is the subject in which I instructed him. If I had a make a suggestion for improvement, it would be to review exponent rules for the future, and to think about when to consider a mathematical expression to be a block-variable.
Seraj's lessons are packed with exciting concepts and interactive problem solving sessions. He can be very patent when I struggle and take the time needed to understand my train of thoughts and encourage me to ask questions. His teaching style allows him to address any of my confusions immediately, which I find extremely helpful for internalizing the first principles and developing further derivations!
I enjoyed listening to Samer Seraj's lectures - his materials are structured logically and the lectures are easy to follow. I liked his way of approaching these materials which strike a balance of breadth, depth and applicability to solve real problems.
I took Mr. Seraj's Introduction to Algebra course on Art of Problem Solving back in 2016. I've just started college, and I still have fond memories of my time taking his class. He is knowledgeable and very supportive of his students. Moreover, he is very passionate about teaching mathematics and does an amazing job helping students understand difficult concepts. I would definitely recommend choosing him as a teacher!
As I watched Seraj’s multi-colour chalk work, I realized what makes a great math teacher and what it means to be passionate about an academic subject and education. Seraj has been my close and long-time friend since 2011 back in my first year of undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto. Regardless if it’s an academic presentation for the university’s department or informal lectures for his friends, Seraj always gives his first-class quality teaching. His specialty is in making complicated topics in mathematics easy to understand and fun! He is good at combining clear instructions with colourful board sketches and really helping his students visualize and internalize abstract concepts in math. Seraj always has a way of making his class lively through interactive examples, analogies and humour. I had the fortune of being his practice subject when he did his lecture preparations --- And behold! His one-on-one lecture sessions were one of a kind. It felt like you were reading a good novel where you play the detective! Seraj has a magical way of drawing out the knowledge from your brain and making you realize the proofs or formulas yourself as if everything was intuitive! So if you want to attend a math class feeling smart and walk out even smarter, Seraj is the best tutor you can ask for!
