About Lucida
I am a highly enthusiastic and passionate pianist who has over 15 years of experience teaching piano to students of all ages and levels. I attended the University of British Columbia where I obtained my Bachelor of Music degree. On top of piano, I teach music theory and music history and have helped many students achieve excellent results on their RCM exams as well as at local festivals. I also hold a Bachelor of Education from UBC and have experience teaching full-time at IB schools. This experience has influenced me to see the value of being inquirers and communicators, which I always encourage my students to be.
I also accompany students and other musicians at recitals, rehearsals, gigs and exams.
I am fluent in English and Mandarin and am able to communicate in Spanish if necessary. I am looking forward to connecting with more students through the wonderful world of music!

Having a strong foundation is very important and beneficial when learning the piano regardless of the style of music you would like to play. That is why my lessons cover all the different areas of rhythm, note-reading (depending on the age of the student), ear training, and music theory right from the start. Once a student passes the beginning stage, they may choose to continue with the RCM examination system or to explore other styles. I set clear expectations for my students. At the same time, I try to understand the different personalities, backgrounds, and learning styles of each student and always tailor my teaching to their specific needs.
I teach 1 hr lessons to students of all levels and ages. Some younger students may benefit from shorter lesson times to begin with.

Perfect! Lucida has been teaching my son Nick for three years. Fantastic piano teacher! Technically very very solid and she has built up a great rapport with him! Would highly recommend!
Perfect! Lessons are super enjoyable and I'm often looking forward to them! She's got great energy (my housemates are jealous that they didn't have as positive music teacher experiences) and she comes up with smart ways to overcome blockages students experience when learning new skills
Perfect! Super engaging, fun, and helpful lessons. Awesome at finding creative exercises and ways to improve specific things. Fantastic teacher!

Lucida is my first piano teacher since I moved and she's been absolutely amazing. She's helped me improve my technical skills, and is supportive with whatever I wanted to do in/get out of our lessons. My piano has improved greatly since we began and I find myself looking forward to every session. She is flexible, supportive, insightful, and I'm very glad I have her as my teacher.
I enjoy having piano lessons with Lucida a lot, she makes piano more interesting and fun. She's a very enthusiastic teacher and always full of energy for class and has a great explanation for every concept.
Here it is:
I think Lucida is a great teacher because she always explain points and answer questions clearly. I enjoy our lesson because because she tries to make lessons fun. She is a nice and very cheerful person. Lucida helped me in music theory, especially in triads, which I always have problems in. I would suggest someone to learn with Lucida because just like I said before, she is very clear with her explaining and is a great person to just be around.Lucida is one of the most musical and talented pianists I’ve ever met. She is wonderfully talented and encouraging while patient and greatly invested in her students. Her lessons are fun but to the point. If you are looking for piano lessons, Lucida is the teacher you want!
