About the lesson
My name is Harrison, and I'm a Toronto-based saxophonist, composer, and teacher. A 2018 graduate of The University of Toronto’s jazz program, I strive to present an original musical voice capable of imparting personality, diligence, and vulnerability.
I find considerable enjoyment and excitement teaching music, with topics including saxophone technique (embouchure, hand position, posture, etc), improvisation, music theory, and composition. In my lessons I place particular value on the "how" and "why", hoping to present a complete picture of what we're working on, why I think it's important, and how it will help us reach our goals. I strive to structure my teaching around individual student’s needs, with the goal of generating and sharing in the enjoyment, growth, and satisfaction of learning music.
I am currently accepting students of any skill level for online (over zoom), or in-person lessons in the Toronto area (outdoors and at a distance in a park/yard for now). I charge $50 for 1hr, or $30 for 30mins, and offer a free 20 minute preliminary lesson to discuss goals and ensure a good match.

I am a 2018 graduate of The University of Toronto’s jazz program. I have four years of private teaching experience, and have given workshops in high schools and universities across Canada. I teach jazz and classical technique, improvisation, music theory, and composition.
Having grown up a Doukhobor, in the interior of British Columbia, teachings of pacifism, communal music making, and respect for life and nature deeply influence my personal and artistic endeavors. My approach to music combines the study of free-improvised, jazz, and classical music. Since I emerged as a leader and prominent collaborator in 2018, I have performed across Canada, worked with many of Canada's foremost jazz musicians, and released four independent albums.
I have studied the saxophone extensively, a former student of Dave Liebman, Wallace Halladay, Mike Murley, John Johnson, Kelly Jefferson, Kirk MacDonald, and many more. Compositionally, I have studied both classical and jazz methods with Sasha Rapoport, John Hollenbeck, Andrew Downing, Terry Promane, and others.
Perfect! Great first session! Looking forward to learn from Harrison to achieve my goals.
