About Maria

I am currently in my first year of my Bachelor’s degree in German and Beginners’ Russian at the University of Oxford. I particularly enjoy the nature of challenges brought by my degree and the diversity of the course. One aspect is being able to explore a wide range of literature and learning how to translate highly nuanced idiomatic passages from German fiction. I also thoroughly enjoy getting to grips with the complexities of Russian grammar and the satisfaction of seeing my understanding of a completely new language grow so much with every day.

I am excited to impart my general love of grammar to my students and help them become confident communicators in French and German. I myself have had the recent experience of picking up Russian from complete beginner level and am able to appreciate and cater to the needs of students still getting to grips with the basics of French and German. Since beginning my A-level studies I have built extensive experience tutoring Maths, English Language, French and German with students aged 11 to 18. I strive to support my students in becoming secure in areas of their subjects which they perhaps don’t enjoy as much or grasp as well, by challenging them to think differently about questions put in front of them and encouraging resilience and enthusiasm.
