Sixth Form student in Pre-U English Literature, gives English Literature and Language tutoring to secondary school pupils in London.

Methodology

Hi there, my name is Salsabeel Montague and I have completed my GCSE's last year achieving a 9 in English Language and a 7 in English Literature- I know the tricks of the trade and will help tutor a secondary school pupil how to achieve those 8s and 9s.

Essentially, I would go through say the poetry anthology with your child and make sure they firstly understand what the text really means, give an insight to the context and help them analyse and annotate. I would also help them construct an insightful and analytical response which I'd be more than happy to look over and give feedback to.

I am also able to go through any of their English homework tasks and guide them; giving useful instructions on how to answer.

For any enquiries please email : (concealed information)

Background

I have tutored a small group of 3 year 10 pupils at my school as well as my younger brother going through their essays and giving insightful analysis. I try and tutor pupils so that after a while they see the improvement first hand teaching them how to break away from the explicit meanings of the text to go on and dig the implicit allusions in texts.

Shadowing, 2013
Youth Take Over Day- Hammersmith & Fulham
Worked alongside the Director of Family services in H&F, attending meeting as well as feeding back my own opinions on the after-care plans.

Shadowing, 2014
Youth Take Over Day- Hammersmith & Fulham
As the Events Planner I had to organise the closing ceremony by organising food catering, certification and create a power point slide including highlights from the day.

Shadowing, 2015
Youth Take Over Day- Hammersmith & Fulham
Given the role “Children’s Centre Worker” I had to monitor and play with the toddlers in the reception class at the playground and at lunchtime. After being moved to a day centre I had to babysit 3 babies keeping them busy whilst their parents were away.

Work Placement, June 2016 to July 2016
Dr S Jefferies and Partners- Fulham, London
Throughout my 2 week work placement I have gained behind the desk experience working as a receptionist, making appropriate appointments for many patients. I have also shadowed doctors in minor surgery as well as consultations which allowed me to exercise my customer care and communication skills. In my time there I completed filing tasks to update patient medical records. Drawing close to the end of my placement, I created a full written and analytical report including the use of diagrams and tables from excel comparing the GP to others in its area to illustrate how they could improve their services.

Work Placement, August 2016
Barclays Headquarters- Canary Wharf and Whitechapel
Amid winning a competition for Barclays by creating a new working fin-tech app I got the opportunity to further my interest in fin-tech start-ups at Rise London to go onto Canary Wharf to share our opinions and introduce a potential app.

Ballet Teaching Assistant, December 2015 to July 2016
First Steps Academy of Dance- Fulham, London
I worked alongside ballet teachers delivering ballet lessons to the nursery and grade 1 class aiding with demonstrations and correcting footwork.

Youth Councillor, 2013- present
Hammersmith Town Hall
Alongside my fellow Councillors we campaign towards improving issues that affect the youth in H&F through events and fortnightly meetings.

English Tutor 2016-present
Amid studying and consequently completing my GCSEs I tutored a small group of year 10 pupils going through texts and offering help with analytical responses as well as background context.
