My teaching method is based on the individual student necessities and it will vary depending on their level. Generally, I start my classes asking the student what they already know about the topic that we will cover. Then, I will approach the topic continently asking question to the student to let them come with the correct conclusion and including as much examples as possible in order to make the topic more attractive. Finally, the student will sum all the topic up in order to clarify the principal information and I will provide them with the resources/databases/articles/etc. to fully complete the topic (in following classes I usually spend a couple minutes revising the previous-covered topics).
I am an enthusiastic student who has recently graduated in a Bachelor’s honours degree in Biotechnology (Universidad de León - Spain) and Biomedical Science (Nottingham Trent University – United kingdom). Ignacio Rodriguez Pastrana
I was a student at University of León (Spain) studying a Bachelor’s honours degree in Biotechnology; and I am currently doing an Erasmus+ exchange at Nottingham Trent University (United Kingdom) studying a Bachelor’s honours degree in Biomedical Science. The time I have spent at university has helped me to achieve both personal and academic success and to improve upon my existing set of skills. I consider myself an inquisitive, active, confident, motivated and enthusiastic person with excellent teamwork, interpersonal, time-management, communication, organisation and critical-thinking skills developed during my degree. I am now looking to further develop and use my skills in a MRes in Molecular Genetics.

• College Average: 9.75 / 10
Modules: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Spanish history, Spanish language and literature and Philosophy.
As a science student during my Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics modules I have gained the basic knowledge; developing my critical-thinking, time-management skills; and the ability to detect a problem and provide an adequate solution. In my English module I have develop the ability use a foreign language increasing my communication skills. Finally, in Philosophy, I have developed my ethic, and interpersonal skills basic to work in science as part of a team.
Bachelor’s honours degree in Biotechnology, University of León (Spain) – Bachelors’ Certificate (2014-2018)
• Bachelor´s degree average: 8.34 / 10
Principal modules: General Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Genetic Engineering, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Cell Culture, Molecular Medicine, Animal Genetic Engineering, Biochemistry, Organic and Inorganic chemistry and Statistics
During my Bachelor’s honours degree I learnt how to work well in both a team and individually within the laboratory equipment. Also, I learnt how to use my theoretical knowledge to design and perform an experiment to solve a biological question. Moreover, I gained good communication skills and have achieved a wide range of scientific skills from working in a laboratory environment using biotechnological protocols including cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction and amplification, protein extraction and purification, molecular genetic engineering, colony screening, microbiology, cancer research and immunology. In these laboratories, I also learnt good laboratory safety practices due to the use of cancer cells, genetic-modified microorganisms, working with animals and harmful substances.
Bachelor’s honours degree in Biomedical Science, Nottingham Trent University (United Kingdom) – Erasmus+ exchange (2017-2018)
Modules: Cell signalling and Cancer, Immunology and Virology, Forensic microbiology and Final Year research project (‘Effects of UNC0642 in autophagy and cell survival using U2OS as a possible antitumoral treatment’).
During my Bachelor’s honours degree I improve my biochemical and molecular knowledge, information technology (IT) skills, and critical-thinking. Also, with the Final Year research project I learnt how to work with minimum supervision, laboratory environment using biotechnological protocols with precious reagents including human cells, cancer cells, primary tissues, chemotherapeutic drug, monoclonal antibodies and recombinant-protein constructions. Also, I improved my confidence, pressure-handling, public speaking and communication skills during the oral presentation. The aim of my research project is: ‘Detecting the possible effects of UNC0642 in autophagy and cell survival using U2OS as a possible antitumoral treatment’. My job includes a wide range of functions from literature review to experiment design and data analysis including an article writing and publication, scientific poster design and public-opening presentation.
OLS English Exam – Erasmus Exchange Exam. Awarded with C1 level. (2017)
Cambridge English Exam - First Certificate in Exam (FCE). Awarded with Grade C (B2 level). (2015)

IV día de fascinación por las plantas at University of León (Spain) – Senior researcher and participant (2017)
This project was used as a scientific dissemination to bring the vegetal scientific world to colleges and ‘non-scientific’ society. My job included a protocol optimization using potato skins as a safe explosive and citric acid as either a possible pigment or combustible. The last weeks during the project, the experiment were performed during an open week at University of León (Spain) with more than 10 colleges.
Projecto de Educación Docente at University of León (Spain) – Senior Research (2017-2018)
This project was used as a scientific dissemination to bring the scientific world to colleges and ‘non-scientific’ society. My job was to design a completely new protocol, which could be performed in colleges, to detect the hygienic milk conditions by counting the number of pathogenic microorganisms. The protocol was based on the resazurin reduction and its qualitative analysis. The experiment and its protocol, were optimized, written, recorded and published. The last weeks during the project, the experiment was performed in different colleges and during an open week at University of León (Spain).
Laboratory researcher associate – Placement/Trainee Student | Instituto de Biologia y Genética Molecular de Valladolid (IBGM) – Spain (June 2017-Septembre 2017)
