Starred First-Class Cambridge Graduate Offering Online Tuition in English, French and Music, as well as Piano and Voice

About the lesson

I am able to teach all repertoire to all levels, and enjoy working equally with beginners and experienced musicians. I believe that there should be no barriers of entry to music-making, and as such I ensure that all pupils of whatever background and ability are given the best chance to meet their full musical potential, either through a curriculum grounded in the Classical canon, or one made bespoke for their needs.

About James

I am a bass-baritone and tutor based in Norwich, UK. I studied Music at Downing College, Cambridge, from where I graduated top of my year with a starred-first class honours degree, and briefly at the Sorbonne in Paris. I currently sing in Norwich Cathedral Choir and in Genesis Sixteen, run a private teaching practice and teach at Norfolk Centre for Young Musicians (NCYM) and Norwich School. I have recently been appointed Bass Stipendiary Clerk in the choir of Magdalen College, Oxford.

I am able to teach English, French and Music to A-Level, as well as piano and voice lessons, and lessons in critical thinking, essay-writing and Oxbridge application.

I am experienced singing as a soloist, in choirs and in consorts, and I have been lucky enough to perform all around the UK, Europe and North America. As a singer I continue to study with Patricia Rozario OBE in the UK and Ken Bozeman in the USA, and I have participated in masterclasses with Dame Emma Kirkby and Mary King. I am also a skilled pianist. I regularly accompany choirs and soloists, and I was the pianist of the Greater Manchester Jazz Orchestra for the 2014-15 season during my last year of school, whilst I studied jazz piano with Les Chisnall at Manchester University.
