About Ryan
I had the good fortune of doing well on my own SATs in high school and attending my #1 college, and love getting to help current high school students do the same!
Here is a quick snapshot of my resume/qualifications:
- In high school: SAT Math 780, Verbal 760
- Dartmouth College, Bachelors degree in Economics 2009
- During college, taught an SAT test prep class and private tutoring in my hometown of Louisville, KY with excellent results
- GRE quantitative score of 800
- Boston University, Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, GPA of 3.92
- Self-taught web app developer, technical founder of 2 software startups
I am still running my current startup, a scheduling app called Arrangr, but love doing tutoring on the side to help students improve their test scores and subject understanding!

Test-taking has always come naturally to me, but I've learned that you don't have to be a natural test-taker to perform well on standardized tests. By learning the typical tricks and patterns that they tend to throw at you, anyone can significantly boost their test scores. In fact, people who aren't naturally gifted at taking tests stand to benefit the most.
I like to tailor sessions to the student's needs. I'm not going deliver pre-scripted lessons, but rather will listen to the student's needs, what they are struggling with, and help them to learn the material in a way that is intuitive for them.
I focus mainly on middle school and high school students, on standardized test preparation, and on the subjects of math and physics. I can also help students learning to code.
For test prep, I'll have students take a practice test first to establish a baseline, and then we will focus in on their biggest areas for improvement.
For subject tutoring, I will first look at the textbook chapters and lesson plans given by their teacher in order to help students learn the subject in a way that is tailored to how their teacher will be testing on it.
