I want my students to succeed and I want to ensure that I operate in the best possible framework to help my students achieve their goals; this is fundamental to my teaching and tutoring philosophy. My primary goal is for my students to achieve and find enjoyment in academic tasks that previously could have proven difficult! I work with students from a variety of backgrounds, and I work specifically with students who struggle to find their footing because of learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
In addition to subject-based tutoring, I am deeply passionate about general academic and professional mentoring. I want my students to succeed, and I want my students to celebrate their hard work and dedication by experiencing their dreams come true. I have worked with teachers and students from 50+ countries and, in doing so, have developed a fundamental understanding of cultural and societal nuances that require adaptive and evolving teaching skills.
My lessons are interactive, engaging, and adaptive; I design each lesson with a specific goal of building a skill while learning a concept: my lessons are designed to build skills that are useful to a variety of academic and business topics.
Happy students make for strong learners, and having a positive, encouraging, and supportive teacher is the first step!
I have a BA (History), an MA (Criminology), an MSc (Law, Anthropology and Society), and a PhD (Sociology), as well as over 10 years experience as a tutor, teacher, published writer, and editor. As a Tutor and Standardized Test Expert, I have assisted 500+ students in reaching their Test Day goals. My passion for education and mentoring has led me to develop not only my students, but also other tutors and teachers: I have actively trained more than 40 teachers to become their own subject experts.
My previous professional projects include academic writing, grant writing, technical writing, report writing, curriculum development, script writing, book reviews, creative writing, and journalism. I have successfully spearheaded a number of research projects and initiatives. I have published my research in book chapters, academic journals, and international academic conference presentations. Additionally, I am a Human Trafficking Subject Matter Expert for the Canadian federal government, reviewing and commenting on its human trafficking policies. My most recent work is for an online Sociology textbook/database for which I have published several chapters, including topics such as Marx, Weber, content analysis, deviance, and Conservative Political Movements. My most recent dissertation at the LSE was chosen to be placed on the student example dissertation webpage of LSE's Department of Law, exemplifying the quality of work expected at LSE.
I am the Associate Editor for the Canadian Graduate Journal of Sociology and Criminology, as well as a Peer Reviewer for numerous international academic journals.
