About the lesson
My teaching method shows how descriptive and inferential statistics are used to explain the real world and solve its problems in business such as market research and manufacturing quality control, public health, economics, psychology, criminology, public opinion polls etc.
My lesson plans focus on the concepts and concrete examples rather than abstract theory.
Social science undergraduates who are required to take statistics as part of their degree program (i.e. business, psychology, sociology, economics, political science) are the focus of my lessons.
I have taught descriptive and inferential statistics to undergraduate university students for a total of five years. Although I have a PhD in International Development, I do not consider myself a statistician but rather a practitioner who has used statistics in his work. This enables me to bring concrete examples in how statistics can be used to solve real world problems rather that present a theoretical situation. My first hour of tutoring is free.
I am writing to recommend David to you as an outstanding teacher whose dependability, patience and professionalism are exemplary.
David worked with undergraduates and graduate students as a tutor in the Center for Educational Resources and Counseling at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA from 2004-2006. During that period, he spent hundreds of hours helping students master the concepts of probability and statistics and link those concepts to real world experiences and situations. His clients uniformly gave him the highest possible evaluations on his performance, indicating that he was empathetic and concerned about their learning.
More mature than the average tutor, David, nevertheless, worked well with them, participating fully in training sessions, and supporting their efforts when he was not with clients. He handled stress well and was promoted to supervisor in 2006, overseeing the operation of the Center from 5-9 PM, assisting tutors with any difficulties that might arise, and helping direct the flow of clients to tutors. He exhibited strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and responsibility, all of which would make him an excellent member of the Superprof community.
I am pleased to offer David Wand my highest recommendation.
Tulane University Tutor Coordinator
David is an excellent teacher of statistics. As a fellow student, he basically taught me essentially the first-year stats course for our graduate program. Without his help, I could not have passed the course. His knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics was invaluable for me. Besides this, he is an excellent individual, who cares deeply about his work and is motivated always by his objectivity, his curiosity, and doing what is right. I would be happy to provide additional information on his candidacy if requested.
I was a colleague of David's when we both taught at George Brown College. David is an enthusiastic teacher, with an excellent knowledge of the subject matter. He goes out of his way to help all his students. He makes statistics interesting and relevant. David is passionate about learning and I would strongly recommend him to any potential student.
