About Elena
I am a Russian-trained concert pianist and piano teacher with more than 23 years of professional teaching and performing experience.
I graduated with honours from the Academic Music College at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. I also completed postgraduate studies at the Gnessin Academy and later taught there as a faculty member.
For over two decades, I have performed throughout Russia and internationally — in philharmonic halls, festivals, and concert tours. My professional work has also included masterclasses, competitions, and jury work across Europe, Asia, and South America.
As a chamber musician, I am a First Prize winner of the Salieri-Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Verona, Italy, and the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition in Karlsruhe, Germany. I have also recorded two chamber music CDs for the Russian classical label Melodiya.
Within chamber music, I developed a specialization in classical saxophone repertoire, from traditional works to contemporary music, collaborating with leading Russian and European classical saxophonists.
As a teacher, I have worked with serious adult learners, motivated teenagers, advanced young musicians, international and diplomatic families, and students from very different cultural and educational backgrounds. This experience taught me how to make complex musical ideas clear without flattening their artistic depth.
My teaching is rooted in the Russian piano tradition. For me, this tradition is not a slogan, but a practical artistic discipline: depth of sound, serious listening, technical clarity, musical imagination, and the ability to turn musical intention into real sound at the keyboard.
I help students connect the score, the ear, the hand, the body, and the imagination, so that technique becomes a path to musical expression rather than a set of mechanical exercises.
My aim is to make artistic depth teachable: to help students build independence and play with accuracy, control, freedom, and beauty of sound.

For pianists who can play the notes — but know that the music is not truly speaking yet.
I work with serious adults, advanced amateurs, motivated teenagers, returning pianists, and students preparing for ABRSM, Trinity, auditions, exams, or performances.
A piece may be nearly ready and still not sound convincing. The sound does not carry. The rhythm feels secure at home but falls apart under pressure. The phrase is correct, but says nothing. Memory depends on fingers. Practice takes time, but the same problems return.
Very often, this is not a lack of effort. It is a lack of a professional map.
My first full lesson is a paid diagnostic lesson. It is a professional assessment of how your playing works now: what is already strong, where progress is being blocked, and what needs to change first for the playing to become freer, deeper, more expressive, and more reliable.
After the diagnostic lesson, you receive a concise written Piano Skill Map: your main strengths, key musical and technical obstacles, priority areas for improvement, and a clear short-term and long-term direction for further development.
My background is in the Russian professional performance tradition, where sound, phrase, form, and physical freedom are the foundation of playing. In my lessons, that level of musical thinking is translated into precise, practical work at the piano.
I do not simply polish pieces. I help students understand why the music is not becoming sound yet — and how to build the connection between hearing, movement, score understanding, practice, and artistic expression.
The goal is a more professional way to hear, think, practise, and play — so that the student does not just prepare pieces, but becomes a stronger, freer, and more convincing musician.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Before working with Elena, I relied too much on repetition and too little on understanding. She helped me see structure more clearly, recognise patterns faster, and memorise in a much more intelligent way. That has made learning repertoire less chaotic and much more secure. I also feel that I now hear phrasing and harmonic movement more consciously than before.
What I appreciate most is the level of seriousness and refinement Elena brings to the lesson. She listens with unusual care and does not remain on the surface of the music. Her teaching is best suited, in my view, to students who want real development, clear guidance, and a more mature relationship with the instrument.
I have a demanding work schedule, so I needed lessons that were focused, efficient, and genuinely worthwhile. Elena works in a very concentrated way. She identifies the real source of a problem quickly and gives practice guidance that is clear enough to use independently during the week. What changed most for me was not only the quality of my playing, but the quality of my practice. I waste much less time now.
My daughter is a teenager, so I was concerned that piano lessons would feel like another formal obligation. Elena handled this beautifully. There is real structure and high expectation in her lessons, but also sensitivity and intelligence. My daughter gradually became much more engaged and started using music as a way to express herself, not just to complete assignments.
For a long time I played “correctly”. Everything was in place, but nothing really moved me.
At some point during these lessons, something shifted — very quietly.
It wasn’t dramatic. Just a phrase that suddenly felt alive.
And once you feel that, you can’t go back. There’s a point where you realise you’re no longer repeating mistakes by habit.
You actually catch them earlier.
That changed my practice more than anything else.I needed structure, not motivation.
This is exactly that.I had always felt that my playing was “correct”, but somehow empty.
We spent nearly twenty minutes on a single phrase in one lesson. At first I was surprised — then something shifted.
It’s difficult to explain, but music started to feel less like execution and more like intention.View more recommendations
