Long-Term Occasional Teacher – Safe & Caring Schools and Alternative Attendance
Toronto District School Board • Toronto, Ontario September 2018 - Present
I am fortunate enough to be a part of the 10% of Education graduates in 2017 who have managed to secure a spot in the TDSB. This program is for students in special circumstances that require a delicate approach. I come in to different locations on request in order to follow and execute the regular teacher’s plans while they are absent. Due to the sensitive nature of the program, work is done with a delicate and empathetic approach while still maintaining a disciplines and goal-oriented learning environment. Responsibilities often include teaching concepts, explaining assignments, supervising tests, evaluating work, and communicating ideas.
Occasional Teacher – Grades 7-12
St Michael’s College School • Toronto, Ontario February 2018 - Present
I follow the regular teacher’s lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages the students to participate. This may include assigning, collecting, and delivering assigned classwork and homework as necessary, according to the teacher’s plans. I do this by modifying various teaching styles to fit the learning styles of the different students, which helps me maintain a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment. If necessary, disciplinary strategies may be used in order to curb behavior disruptive to a progressive learning environment. My responsibilities also sometimes included supervising students out of class such as in the hallways or cafeteria during lunch. See Personal Projects: Blue Zambonis, Creative Writing Club
