About the lesson
The way I tutor includes, but is certainly not limited to, using different visual aids, making math relevant and meaningful, and providing help and preparing lessons according to how the individual student learns best and what the student's most important needs are. I am patient and good at explaining concepts clearly. My lessons are intended for students in Grades 4 to 12 who are struggling with math or who simply want to improve their math marks. Although I am focused on tutoring in the Tri-Cities (Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam), I can tutor almost anywhere in the Greater Vancouver area.

I am currently tutoring math, from Grades 4 to 12, for students who are struggling with math or who simply want to improve their math marks. I have a passion for helping elementary and high school students who are having challenges with math. My goal is to help them confidently understand mathematical concepts, and I use several different teaching methodologies and structured lessons to accomplish that. I have a B.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.Ed. in Secondary School Education from The University of British Columbia. One of my favorite courses at UBC was a third-year math course on number theory.
Perfect! This was my son's first experience with a tutor. He was leery of the idea, however Abraham took it in stride and was able to connect with him in no time. Abraham was very receptive to input from the parents to assist in determining the direction of teaching required and appeared to have many approaches to ensure the student was able to become confident in the materials. My son went from believing he was not good in math and lacking confidence to an A and motivated to do the work to learn. Thanks Abraham.
Perfect! Abraham is very passionate about math, highly skilled professional. Plus to it he is an amazing and caring human being. We highly recommend him and his tutoring services!
Perfect! Abraham is tutoring both our sons - one in middle and high school. His patience and creative approach keeps them engaged and has helped build confidence that they both had lost in math. He offers alternate ways to solve problems and speaks to their individual learning style. His post session correspondence to us is thorough and explains what’s been reviewed and what the plans will be next time. The boys enjoy their time with Abraham as he has a style that is calm and not pressured. He cares about his students and will go to any length to help them succeed and feel good about math. We are grateful for his help and his unique approach, as we’ve not seen with any other math tutor. Thank you for helping our boys
- See the response Abraham : I continue to enjoy tutoring the two boys. They have shown a willingness and eagerness to learn the material that I have been presenting. On occasion, they have also keenly asked me to briefly discuss other mathematical topics of interest or extensions of the topics currently being covered. I always have fun tutoring them and they are always ready to learn as soon as I arrive. They are a great pleasure to work with.
Perfect! Abraham is a patient, interactive and very knowledgeable person. He keeps his lessons effective, engaging and quickly adapts the level of his student.
He has given my son the confidence to achieve his goals in math.
Abraham is always on time, organized and well prepared with study materials. He provides professional and regular updates via email.
Abraham gives step by step explanations and makes sure my son understood everything before proceeding. My son's mark has improved by 15% after only 3 weeks of Abraham's tutoring.
I would definitely recommend Abraham to anyone.
- See the response Abraham : Giovanni is Danka's son. I have enjoyed helping Giovanni with Grade 11 math for the past few weeks. He takes the time to learn the material that I teach and does the assigned questions. He is a good listener. He takes initiative to know when he needs additional tutoring sessions from me and what topics he would like additional help on. He is easy to talk to, patient, and always ready for tutoring at the scheduled time. He is a model tutoring client.

This past year I was having a lot of difficulty in my Pre-Calc 12 course. My mom's friend referred us to Abraham, and with his help my confidence and math abilities exploded. I only had 5 lessons with him, but in that short time I got to know him and we covered a lot of subjects. He is kind and someone who never rushes through anything. I think this is important because by going through the basics, I overcame some misconceptions about fundamentals which I never would have covered in class. He makes sure you really understand why the math works, rather than simply how to do it. I would definitely recommend Abraham to anyone taking high school math, especially if you are having difficulty as I firmly believe he will set you on the right track. Most importantly, he teaches with a smile and makes you feel like you can do it, even if math isn't your thing.
Abraham is a really great teacher, the way he talks and explains things is so understandable and clear, so easy for any student to get it
Also he is so accurate and organized
He has his own way to make things seems easy and simple for his student to understand it
He is so professional and effective in his career.
I found Abraham to be very knowledgeable and he is good at explaining the material in several different ways. He also uses visual aids and props. He is patient and listens to what I need and lets me ask him questions. I highly recommend him.
Abraham is my brother and over the years he has helped me with math (I now have a PhD in a STEMs subject). Using patient explanations and every-day analogies, he actually makes math concepts fun to learn. Students can see a practical side of the subject they once thought of as abstract. The point of a lesson is to make it engaging, fun and educational, and Abraham enthusiastically provides that.

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
From an early age, I have always loved math and have always been good at math. Math has always been fun for me. For instance, there are interesting properties for different expressions, operations, numbers, etc., and different mathematical concepts can be used to solve a particular problem, kind of like how everything fits together in a jigsaw puzzle. Also, I always knew that math had many relevant real-life applications.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
I love working with numbers, seeing various mathematical patterns, seeing how some relatively complex equations or expressions can be neatly reduced to something relatively simple, etc. Furthermore, math is used everywhere, everything from the most complex calculations in a research lab to something as simple as figuring out the total spent on junk food at the grocery store. Math touches almost every aspect of society, of our daily lives.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
I love seeing the look on a student's face when they get that "Aha!" moment, when they finally understand a math concept that seemed like a foreign language to them just minutes ago. I want students to achieve their potential, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with them. With many students struggling with even the most basic mathematical concepts in an increasingly competitive world, I decided to invest as much time as possible in helping students who are having difficulty with math. And that's what makes me a "Superprof": among many other things I do for my students, I use different teaching techniques and methodologies, even with the same topic, since different students learn and understand math in different ways. Just as there are often many different ways to get the correct answer to a math question, there are also often different ways to teach the same math topic.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
I had the same math teacher in my senior high school years. Among many other great qualities, he was very patient, explained things well, and was very encouraging: these are qualities I utilize in my own tutoring sessions. He is one of my best role models and is also one of my most favorite teachers.
What are your keys to success?
Work hard, work smart, persevere, be patient, stay focused, and learn from failure. Or to put all this another way, more or less: have the discipline to do what you know you should do, even if you don't feel like to do it. (Failure will not prevent you from succeeding, but being lazy will.)
