University psychology student in Mississauga teaching psychology 101; all things psychology. A course for beginners and intermediates.

Methodology

I have a very student-centred approach to learning. I want my students to feel comfortable and know that my lessons are a safe place where they can frequently ask questions, debate topics, conversate, and learn in a friendly environment. My primary role would be to coach and facilitate student learning and overall comprehension of material and to measure student learning through formal and informal forms of assessment, like group projects, student portfolios, and class participation. In the student-centred online classroom, teaching and assessment are connected because student learning is continuously measured during teacher instruction. I would encourage group discussions on psychology topics, frequently answer their questions, and learn from them. I do not have an authoritative approach whatsoever, as I am a student myself. I am also interested in incorporating different learning styles, such as visual, auditory, and tactile learning skills. I am open to teaching in any way my students learn best. The audience that would most likely learn best from me is students in high school to first-year university. The goal is to establish a full and rounded education and understanding of all aspects of psychology, to prepare my students for examinations, specifically multiple choice and short answer tests, which will prepare them for post-secondary evaluations.

Background

I am a psychology student at York University, and I've been interested in psychology for as long as I can remember! I am currently going into my second year of university, and I will be graduating in April 2023 with a BA in Psychology. I plan to continue my education and get a master's degree in a specific area of psychology that I have not decided yet! I have extensive yet detailed knowledge on all aspects of psychology so far, with going into my second year my classes will be more subject focused. However, all aspects of psychology intertwine with the other. I have extensive knowledge of the following: Evolution of psychology, variations in consciousness, language and thought, human development across the lifespan, mental health, therapy, the brain and biological aspects of psychology, psychological disorders and treatment, psychotherapy, prejudice, power of the situation, social psychology, authority, love and attraction, stress and health, health psychology, emotion, motivation, personality, adolescence and adulthood, child development, thinking, memory, intelligence, dreams, learning, hypnosis and drugs, research methods, perception, and biological basis of behaviour. I have my psychology textbook and all of my psychology notes from university, including notes I made from my professor's slideshows, notes I made from listening to my professor in lectures, and online research.

Joanna's Resume

I am a dedicated and hardworking individual who works and is tremendously good with children and young adults. I love working with others and expressing ideas, thoughts, and questions while learning with fun in a positive environment. Learning about psychology, development, and mental health can be very beneficial to one's everyday struggles with stress and anxiety. I find that the more you learn about psychology, the more you learn about yourself. I will be teaching coping mechanisms and having open talks about struggles with mental health. I will provide extensive and rounded education on all aspects of psychology, with different focuses on every lesson.

In my resume below, you can see that I have worked extensively with children and young adults in my volunteer work. As a camp counsellor, I would initiate nightly discussions on mental health, friendship, relationships, world issues, emotions, sleep disorders, bullying, and more. I developed excellent relationships with the girls in my cabin, and they saw me as someone they could trust and be effortlessly comfortable with. In highschool I was an executive member of the Mental Health Awareness club, where we
provided our general members with workshops and ways to control and reduce stress and anxiety.
