About Matthew

10 Years living in East Asia; 48 University Credits of Mandarin w/ A- GPA; Masters from Cornell; Former missionary in Taiwan; Former Foreign Area Officer to China for Department of Defense. Ran a company in China operating exclusively in Mandarin for five years. I am a 'foreigner' who understands how to introduce the Chinese language to a Western mind because I experienced the process myself! Join me in discovering relatable and memorable ways to communicate in this beautiful language. If you like music and art, then Chinese is for you!

About the lesson

Whether you bring materials from a course you are taking; or seek to use materials I recommend, each class will be tailored to your needs. For instance, often students struggle with grammatical concepts. This is USUALLY because they haven't had the benefit of mastering the vocabulary first. I know how to find out if this is the case and help get you 'un-stuck.' Lessons will consist of a 'seek to understand' segment to start where I gauge understanding; and will then proceed with practical examples and then exercises. Plenty of opportunities to demonstrate mastery will be given before we move on.
