About the lesson
I’ve been teaching cello since I was 17 years old. I like to incorporate music that you already know and love into lessons, in order to keep both the student and myself engaged. I feel that incorporating ensemble practice is important for the development of the ear, as well as learning from memory, before learning how to read music. I love working hard for my students, and I expect them to do the same. Practicing is so important, but sometimes we don’t find it so fun. I always try to keep it as fun as possible with a variety of exercises and pieces, while also providing structure and consistency.

Kendra Grittani is a talented and experienced young cellist. She started playing at the age of four, and completed her Bachelors in Performance from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in 2015 as well as her Masters in Cello Performance at McGill University in 2018. Kendra completed her studies with accomplished cellist, chamber musician, and professor, Elizabeth Dolin. Her past teachers include Paul Widner, teacher at the University of Toronto and Glenn Gould School, and Juno and Grammy award-nominated cellist, Professor Matt Haimovitz. For performing at events, Kendra has experience with various genres of music including, but not exclusive to, Classical, Folk, Pop, Improvisation, Blues, and Jazz. She also has a teaching studio, in which she has a variety of students ranging from ages 3-60, at various levels from Beginner to Advanced.
Kendra is a remarkable cellist and teacher. Her high level of experience and passion towards the cello reflect in her teaching and playing. She’s very patient and has excellent teaching methods, focusing on developing proper techniques while still making lessons fun by incorporating songs I enjoy and playing duets. She’s very friendly and always takes the time to help me solve any issue I’m having with practicing. I’ve made big improvements since I first started out with her not too long ago, and look forward to lessons each week!
I was Kendra's student when I first started playing cello and now I have been playing cello for almost three years. I think I am in a good position to say that Kendra is an excellent cello teacher because as of today, I am still benefiting from the techniques that she taught me from 2 years ago. She really is able to explain every question I had to the last detail and give me useful suggestions. She is also a very nice person who will make you enjoy cello. In my opinion, a teacher who is able to explain things so that her students start to enjoy it instead of hate it is the best. That's why I highly recommend Kendra as your teacher for any level of Cello if you are looking for someone who is both professional and interesting.
