Making a mistake happens to everyone. Nobody is perfect. Students make mistakes on exams all the time. It could be from a number of things, from lack of sleep or stress or even just something they forgot. It happens. Even teachers make mistakes on exams. Yes, that's right. Even your teacher grading you can make a mistake. It could be a grading error or even a miswritten question. But, again, it happens to everyone.

When it comes to making a mistake, it's about what comes after. First, you have to own your mistake and figuring out how to evolve from making the same mistake again. Sometimes exam mistakes are unavoidable. They just happen, but knowing about them can make all the difference to help you avoid them.

What Happens When a Teacher Makes a Mistake?

If you notice a mistake on your exam, you should do a few things as a student to bring it up to your teacher. And yes, you should bring it up with your teacher. The mistake could potentially affect your mark, or another student may have missed the mistake and could lose marks as well.

We've all taken a test before where a question just doesn't seem to have the right answer, or a question just doesn't make sense. Teachers are only trying their best, just like many of us. Here are some things you should do when your teacher makes a mistake.

Bring it to their attention - Letting the teacher know is an important step. Don't let it skim past their attention. You might be losing marks if it goes missing. Your teacher will appreciate the honesty. After that, they can let the other students know, so it doesn't affect their marks.

Be Polite - Mistakes happen. Everyone makes them. Be polite when bringing it up to their attention. Your teacher may already be embarrassed enough by mistake. You're simply just letting them know about the error.

Provide Proof - Knowing about a mistake. You need to have proof of what is an error. Your teacher may not realize it at first, so you have to state your case. This can be a little nerve-wracking, but it will be okay—your doing the right thing.

As much as we like to think our teachers are perfect, especially when it comes to writing tests, there are not. They make mistakes just like everyone else. Like us, when we take out an exam, we most likely feel the same nerves about creating the test. As we have written about mistakes in our previous articles, nerves can be a big reason many of us make mistakes.

Examples of Teacher Mistake

Finding mistakes of the teacher is no easy task. We've checked all over the web, to bring you something with regards to a teacher mistake. Luckily, we found a few examples of teachers that have made a mistake. Teachers are only human like the rest of us. It's important to understand that. Yes, it can be a bigger deal around exam time, but bring up the mistake with your teacher and find a solution. Now, let's look at some mistakes from teachers. We haven't listed any names or even the school boards to keep everyone's identity out of it.

Spelling Mistakes - This mistake doesn't make that significant impact on a test, but it can make you stop and think for a second. All teachers make spelling mistakes. It could be one word off or even a couple, but they do happen. Just like students, it could be for a variety of reasons. If you're unsure of the word your teacher is trying to say, ask.

Marking Error - One teacher reported they missed calculated a student's answer and gave them fewer marks than they were supposed to. The question was out of 7, and they only read three examples. The student had to report back after the test was graded and show where the four other marks were.

Missed Measurement - One math teacher reported that he missed waiting for centimetres to end his math questions. The student assumed it was in meters. When the teacher was marking, they gave the student the wrong answer because it was in Metres, not centimetres. Luckily, the teacher caught the mistake and ended up giving the student the correct answer for the question.

Chances are your teacher has made a mistake in the past, and they'll make a mistake again. That's just like everyone in the world; we all make mistakes. Nobody is perfect. Making mistakes in school, especially as the teacher, can be a little embarrassing for them. Still, they will be happy you caught the mistake.

After the Exam Mistake

They can be learning opportunities by noticing a mistake, your most likely not make that mistake again. It allows you to learn from it rather than keep it from happening. If you're a student that has some nerves around exam time, you may benefit from working with a tutor.

Mitigate Your Own Mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes, even the people you look up to make mistakes, including teachers. Mistakes happen, and they happen for everyone. By looking at exam mistakes, they are avoidable. Be sure to take any precautions you can not to make a mistake. If it does happy, be sure to find a way to mitigate the mistake.

Remember, if you find a mistake your teacher made either on the exam or in-class, bring it up. You could miss out on some extra marks. By pointing out the mistake, your teacher can correct it. Then, just as we have been mentioning, they can find a way to move past the mistake and learn from it. Be sure to follow our precautions to limit the mistakes from happening to you. Chances are on our list. You've made a few of them. Now, you have to decide on how to limit yourself from making a mistake or find a way to avoid them. The rest is up to you. Good luck with your exams.
