About William

My name is William Gilbert! Economics and politics is my passion--I have dedicated my studies and career to using scientific tools to understand these very human issues. Approaching learning requires self-empathy and accepting that we not know everything, but are willing to try our best to learn more than we knew yesterday. I am a professional who understands that intimidation is antithetical to knowledge.

I acquired my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Development at McGill University. I acquired my Master of Science in Political Economy of Emerging Markets at King's College London.

I am classically trained in micro-, macro-, and development economics. I studied monetary policy, financialization, multinational investment, and international trade.

I worked for a year as a writer and editor for Catalyst, a publishing platform for economic development topics.

I worked as a year as a research staffer for Growth Teams, an economic development consulting firm working with African and Indian governments.

I love reading, swimming, painting, watching TV shows, and listening to music! I adore Chet Baker, Fatoumata Diawala, and Bach.

If you have passion--no matter what that passion is--we will get along well together. I will bring professionalism, dedication, and passion to the table. I hope you we will learn and succeed together!

My teaching style is simple: I come with an open mind and heart, understanding that learning is difficult. If you are patient with yourself, you can learn anything. I teach with empathy, patience, and excitement. Learning should be fun, too!

Struggling to understand a topic? Worried about an upcoming exam? We will:
-Take a bird's eye view; what are you studying? What do you need to know?
-Break it up into pieces; what are some categories of subjects and concepts we can organise? We must tackle one thing at a time.
-Practice with examples; we can better understand with real-world cases. The abstract becomes concrete!
-We talk it out; Could you become the tutor? The best way to know if you understand something is to explain it to someone else.

My lessons are designed for exam preparation, but can be applied to general understanding for succeeding with course materials. Cramming is not studying! You must understand the material like the back of your hand to succeed.

I will bring my passion, patience, and empathy with me when we work together. Contact me if you have any questions!
