Technical fundamentals such as finger positioning, chord fluency, rhythmic accuracy, tone control, and stylistic articulation are the foundation, always practiced through songs that excite you, whether blues, folk, rock, metal, jazz, or pop.
Music theory is introduced in practical, fun ways, using exercises like modal interchange, chord substitutions, reharmonization, and melodic solo building to enhance your understanding and application. Improvisation, songwriting, and arrangement are integral parts of our work, encouraging you to develop your personal voice and deepen your relationship with the guitar.
I emphasize clear, achievable goals and reflective practice to maintain motivation and progress. One highlight was supporting a student in transforming a fast punk rock anthem into a delicate fingerstyle acoustic arrangement, witnessing their growing confidence and musicianship. Teaching guitar with me is about fostering both technical skill and creative freedom while igniting a lifelong passion for music.

I believe teaching guitar is about creating a collaborative and encouraging environment where students develop technical skills and artistic expression simultaneously.
We begin with fundamental techniques such as posture, finger placement, chord transitions, and strumming patterns, practiced within songs and genres that motivate the student—be it blues, rock, pop, folk, or other styles. I incorporate applied theory lessons on chord progressions, scales, rhythm, and song structure to deepen musical understanding and foster creative freedom. Clear communication is vital; I simplify complex topics, encourage questions, and adapt lessons to each student’s learning style and goals, whether visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. To maintain motivation, I employ backing tracks, rhythmic drills, metronome work, and visual aids that promote active engagement and steady skill growth.
Guitar playing should be a joyful, expressive outlet rather than a frustrating task, so I share stories of guitarists who persevered through setbacks to inspire confidence and resilience. Alongside technique, I emphasize tone shaping, improvisation, sight-reading, performance preparation, and effective practice methods to equip students with a comprehensive musical toolkit. Whether playing casually or aiming for performance, I am dedicated to fostering growth with patience, passion, and individualized attention.
