About Kayla

Hi, I’m a current student at William Jessup University with a passion for learning and helping others succeed. Reading and writing have always come naturally to me, but as someone with ADHD, it took time to learn how to channel my energy and focus in school. With discipline, effective study strategies, and encouragement from great mentors, I graduated with honors and academic awards. Alongside my studies, I’ve gained real teaching experience as a teacher’s aide in a 9th-grade classroom, as well as tutoring my siblings and friends with their schoolwork. I am also an avid reader; I have read 18 books so far this year. These opportunities taught me how to explain concepts clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and encourage students to feel confident in their abilities.

My Tutoring Approach Teaching Method and Techniques: I believe every student learns best when the material is presented in a way that feels approachable and practical. Because I naturally love learning, I aim to pass that enthusiasm on to my students. I use clear explanations, step-by-step strategies, and interactive practice rather than rote memorization. Since I have ADHD myself, I understand the importance of keeping lessons engaging and structured. I incorporate tools like guided outlines, timed practice, and active discussion to keep energy focused and learning effective. A Typical Lesson Plan: Check-in: Briefly review the student’s current challenges and goals for the week, as well as the assignments needed to be completed. Warm-up activity: A short reading or writing exercise to get focused. Core lesson: Step-by-step instruction on the topic (essay structure, vocabulary building, reading comprehension strategies, etc.) with real examples. Practice: Student applies the skill with guided support. Feedback and strategies: Constructive feedback plus techniques to take home (study tips, organizational strategies, reading tools). Wrap-up: Quick recap and goal-setting for the next lesson. What Sets Me Apart: What makes me different is that I know firsthand what it’s like to need more structure and focus, and I’ve developed techniques that really work — not just for me, but for others too. I don’t just teach content; I teach how to approach learning with confidence and discipline. My students benefit from someone who has both the academic credentials (honors student at William Jessup University) and the personal experience of overcoming challenges through proven study habits. Who My Lessons Are For: Elementary, Middle school, and High school students. Anyone struggling with English essays, vocabulary, or reading comprehension Students with ADHD or learning challenges who need extra patience and structure Learners who want to not only improve grades, but also develop lifelong study skills.
